Looking at the pictures there seem to be 2 different revisions of the Amiga Kit led PCB, on the second one it would be more difficult to cut the GND track.

@Higgy If I look at the pictures of the mod correctly there is a wire between your 2 leds, this is different to the other one as it needs a cut on both sides of the led.


IMHO if you want to make a universal guide for both versions, it would probably be easyer to change the leds around from Higgys mod.

Right, it's coming back to me @Maximilian thanks for bringing back my memories.
I think I initially made a school boy error and cut the trace on the lower LED (green power). So there is a little wire link rejoining them.

So yes the LEDs are in series, so there must be another hidden from view cut on the top LED so the 2 upper LEDs are completely separate from each other. I should delete the pics and add a new post with another 'cut' added.

I probably also had to scrap away to expose the track I marked 'join' on.

Maybe you could use y Lamaman1971 his photo for it.

How is the brightness of both of the leds?, for most leds you would use something like a 330 ohm resistor in series, but for some reason AmigaKit is using 150ohms.
Probably because the led isn't always on and it is difficult to see it if it is violently blinking.
But if the led remains on it should have a decent value resistor in series.

I would probably test with a 180 ohms resistor between the led that is still connected to ground and the other 150 ohms resistor.
And add a 330 ohms resistor between IDE 5v (pin 41) and the led that was cut on both sides, the other side would be connected to _IDE_LED (pin 39).
That last resistor I would solder on the IDE side for safety as it is a 5V supply line and cover it with hot snot, if the cable gets cut by the metal shielding it would not be such a big problem with an inline resistor on the correct side.

But I have no means to test as my lab is packed up in a box a.t.m., so no gurantees here.

I'm away right now on Vacation but I'll be home next week - I'll tackle this project then and put up some photos once I'm finished (or stuck!).

Got this done and working. I’ll take some photos and post up exactly what I did tomorrow. Works great.

Hi Folks,

I broke the Mod into 4 steps :

1. Upgrade the PCB Resistor to 150 Ohm
2. Isolate one half of the LED for Hard Drives - Cut Tracks and Join up the resistor to the remaining LED
3. Connect a couple of wires to the TF IDE controller
4. Add a 150 Ohm inline resistor to the connecting cable to the isolated half of the LED

Hope it helps someone. I'm away to tidy the job up and refit,

Nice!!, and it should work like that for both revisions of that led PCB.

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback - I have to say it works like a dream, and looks good too. At least I can see whats happening on my HDD now :)
