Eiffel 3 Conversion of PS/2 sockets to USB Sockets

Post by Icky »

Just another project to add to my never ending list of projects

The Eiffel 3 is a great add on to the Atari ST if you are wanting to connect a PC PS/2 style keyboard to the ST.

I didn't have any PS/2 keyboards knocking around at home but there are USB to PS/2 adaptors available to use USB keyboards and mouse.

They work fine but they look cumbersome connected to the Eiffel 3 - seems to mess with my OCD for neatness.

So I am going to remove the mouse and keyboard PS/2 sockets and replace with USB ones.

Below is the pin out and connections required to get this to work. Unfortunately it's not a drop in de-solder / re-solder job even though the pins marry up.

EDIT: This the correct pin to pin photo

So a bit of hackery is needed :)

I'm beginning to think that the amount of time available to do projects, is inversely proportional to the number of projects on the list!!

I think the biggest problem is Idea = Project. That equation is the biggest issue in my book.

Well I have had a first thought on this.

USB socket underneath is the simplest, would fit and you can patch the clock line over as that pin is NC. However its underneath and my neatness niggling voice in the back of my head is still there.

The Mouse socket became a bit of a stubborn socket hence the marks from ending up clipping the thing off.

Ya know RJ, there's a printed case for the EIFFEL 3. You need to change it to support usb connectors. Just pretend its not an idea. ;) ;)
