Hi all,
I've been told that the PSU Individual computers sells is supposed to be the best, but they want €35 to post to the UK! Then there will be import charges on top of that. So that's a no go. Is there another reputable Amiga PSU I can buy, something well designed, not using a Meanwell etc.
Cheers for the advice,
Good (new) Amiga PSU recommendations?

@Steve
I have this one:
https://amigastore.eu/en/683-a-power-hq ... 01200.html
and it works well with my expanded Amiga 1200.
Not however sure Jens would be happy with its specs...
Oh, and if you decide to buy one, just don't care about the UK plug. Take a standard "European plug" version and buy yourself a cheaper one on Amazon or elsewhere.

Not sure what you mean by well designed - something wrong with Mean Well? I have used them on many different kinds of systems for years and they are always reliable. PT-65B and RTB-60B are both excellent choices, if you open up anything but an Individual Computers Amiga PSU you will probably find one of them. If you believe that an Amiga supply must be perfect on every spec then paying €35 is just something you're going to have to do...

Had also a Meanwell RT-50B for my expanded Amiga 500 and everything worked like a charm.
Meanwell and Traco Power PSUs are really good, but if you have a RapidRoad USB in you Amiga 1200 and got problems, you can expect Jens to blame your power supply...

Re: Good (new) Amiga PSU recommendations?
@Aeberbach @HigashiJun Cheers. Well I created my current PSU which is a Meanwell RT65 (I think) and yeah, I haven't had a problem with it to be honest. It's just that Jens really blames everything on Meanwells and says they're the worst thing for an Amiga. He seems to be a very smart bloke. Although, ironically, when I look in his support forum on his CA-PSU it's absolutely full of people with problems! Makes me wonder
But yes, I'm not an Amiga expert you see. Even in our Atari community we are rather dogmatic in the area of PSUs, but for good reason. At least Exxos shows us all his readings and results measuring all different types of PSU, and even gives us guides and kits for making old PSUs better (not *just* saying all other PSUs are bad without proof, and making his own PSU to sell, like Jens does) So yeah I am a bit suspect of whether Jens blaming everything in PSUs is just his 'get out of jail free card' for supporting his various products when customers have issues. It's easier to just blame the customers configuration isn't it.
I guess I'm just trying to get to the truth

Re: Good (new) Amiga PSU recommendations?
I'd have to agree that the Meanwell PSUs are really quite reliable, so not sure why anyone would say they're not
I'm about to start recapping my A1200 PSU, and I'm hoping that will improve things with mine, but if not then I suspect it'll be some sort of replacement will be in order, and since it's only 5v, 12v and -12v then a suitable Meanwell will be easy to find.

Re: Good (new) Amiga PSU recommendations?
Apparently, the original PSUs were designed to compensate for 'cable drop', ie the voltage dropping due to the cable distance. Then, apparently inside the Amiga there is an input filter that also drops the voltage a little more. Then apparently, they also need to stay within a 5% tolerance. This is what I gathered from what Jens has been saying (In case anyone doesn't know, Jens is the man behind Individual computers) I guess, if we adjust the 5v rail on the meanwell and measure inside the Amiga *after* the input filters, that should be good enough? But, he still says no. Not sure why.rubber_jonnie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 9:29 am I'd have to agree that the Meanwell PSUs are really quite reliable, so not sure why anyone would say they're not

Re: Good (new) Amiga PSU recommendations?
Will have a watch later thanks.
I guess the other thing here is "What Amiga are we talking about?"
I assumed A1200 as we'd talked on another thread about it, but are we talking about A500, A500+, A600, A1200?
I'm not 'Amiga enough' to know if there is much of a difference since I only own an A1200 (New caps are ordered )

Re: Good (new) Amiga PSU recommendations?
Yes, there's even a seminar on PSU for AMIGAs.
To be honest, I have no real intention to watch it.
My 1200 and all its accessories work just fine with the PSU I mentioned above.
It seems like Commodore made the perfect PSU and it was never outperformed...
Quite hard to believe, but why not, everything is possible nowadays.
