Amiga not booting ( was 27C400 EPROM emulators (beta) issue D technical discussion)

Post by nivrig »

*sigh* lukzer has tested the emulator I sent him on a Rev6a A500 with a HC533 fitted and it worked perfectly. He's going to send me a new HC533 firmware file, but it's expected to be the same as the version I already have. I've also removed, cleaned and reseated Gary but it made no difference. I do now have a little 8CH 24Mhz logic analyzer, still in the box

Could it be a powersupply issue?
What kind do you have?, has it been recapped?, has the Amiga been recapped?

Are there any clearance issues?

Hi,

I've just started to try out my board thats been sitting unused for a year in my rev 6.2 (Floppy209 remake) A2000.

Its not happy at all, just a purple screen on power on. I believe the rev 6.2 A2000 was JEDEC for its ROM so no need for the link.

If i plug in a USB cable it fails to enumerate on linux and windows.

[ 1155.437423] usb usb3-port9: attempt power cycle
[ 1155.853357] usb 3-9: new full-speed USB device number 13 using xhci_hcd
[ 1155.853645] usb 3-9: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 1156.061499] usb 3-9: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 1156.269380] usb 3-9: device not accepting address 13, error -71
[ 1156.397306] usb 3-9: new full-speed USB device number 14 using xhci_hcd
[ 1156.397519] usb 3-9: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 1156.605542] usb 3-9: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 1156.813397] usb 3-9: device not accepting address 14, error -71
[ 1156.813528] usb usb3-port9: unable to enumerate USB device

All looks a bit broken.

First double check your USB wiring. Some cables have white/green swapped over. Check your ground connection too.

The only problem I've seen with the USB is with someone who fried the STM32 by putting 5v on one of the DP/DP USB connections. Blew the transient protection diodes too. Everything else was incorrect connection of DP/DN.

You can send it back and I can look at it. If the STM32 is damaged it is an easy repair except I have no stock of them anymore...

I got lazy an used a pre-made cable https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233663418812

Must admit i just presumed red was 5v and everything else was in order.

Would a purple screen mean dead STM ?, no magic smoke or bad smell from the diodes.

They often have pin 4 as ground and pin 5 as shield. If this is the case you have no ground for the USB... USB is not differential and requires a ground reference. Check your cable with a multimeter..

Purple boot on an Amiga? I don't know what would cause that.. dead module would usually give black screen AFIK

New build modern PSU so that should be fine. No clearance issues I can see, and I put an insulator between the bottom of the board and the ROM slot just in case. The A500 hasn't been recapped though - I hadn't considered that.

I wouldn't directly suspect the caps on the motherboard but if there are a few things wrong...

What is the 5V at the CPU?

Quote from somebody on the internet:
When I was putting my new A1200 MB into my new Power Tower I didn't seat the
two Kickstart chips in (silly mistake) and the result was an all purple
screen.
So, check that your Kickstart chips are seated properly. If yes, then it may
be a problem with one (or both) of your Kickstart chips.
Ciao, Trev Daley.

Your right, just needed pins 4/5 swapping on the USB pin header, with my big mess of wobbly wires i get:
