Re: The strange case of the Commodore 64 colour bands.
I could do it sooner rather than later as I made sure that I got one build with turned pins, which are less likely to damage the single-wipe VIC-II socket on the motherboard. I can at least do a quick test... unless it doesn't get a good connection in the single-wipe socket on the motherboard.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I hate single wipe sockets with a passion. Good luck.stephen_usher wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 3:34 pm I could do it sooner rather than later as I made sure that I got one build with turned pins, which are less likely to damage the single-wipe VIC-II socket on the motherboard. Yeah, I already thought that I'd broken the VIC-II once due to one of the pins not quite being straight enough!

I've not run into that yet with the VIC-20, but pretty sure they were a problem in the 600XL.stephen_usher wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 3:56 pm Yeah, I already thought that I'd broken the VIC-II once due to one of the pins not quite being straight enough!

Re: The strange case of the Commodore 64 colour bands.
I've just tried the LumaFix64... The adjustments obviously go the "wrong way" and they all just make things worse.

Thankfully the LumaFix64 hasn't damaged the socket and the VIC-II still works in it.
The one thing the LumaFix64 did was to soften the output. It lost quite a bit of horizontal definition.
So, now I have to wait for the capacitors to arrive, which will be after my Easter break now.

Darn.
Sorry to hear that.
You must be miffed.

Only miffed by RS Components' "next day delivery", especially as it took 3 days before it even left their EU facility let alone make its way across the Channel.
From what I was seeing on the oscilloscope and from the chroma signal on its own I was pretty sure that it wasn't a luma issue and this has merely confirmed it.

The capacitors seem to be in the UK at last.
