The H4/5 motherboards have an array of expansion bus sockets ranging from 4x original 5V 68k Bus footprints to plug boards into and the 2x 3V3 68k Bus footprints to plug more cost effective boards into on the H5.

Below is a small summary of all the boards that are in development or available as part of the Phoenix platform. In addition we are providing a status of the boards with this key:
  • PROTOTYPING - still in development and not available
  • BETA - still in development but may be available to a small group of testers
  • AVAILABLE - to the public

Flashy Clock - BETA

Below is a list of the board features:

Flash ROM
  • Ability to boot from up to 5x ROM images
  • 4x 256K flashable ROM banks to store TOS, EmuTOS or other bootable ROM images
  • Ability to boot from the motherboard ROM. No need to remove ROM from the motherboard
  • Failsafe jumper to boot directly from motherboard ROM in case of issues
  • Software to load ROM images into ROM banks
  • Software selectable ROM bank including motherboard ROM
RTC
  • Real Time Clock based on the Falcon RTC
  • NVRAM available for future settings
ALT RAM
  • 8MB ALT RAM

Trudie - AVAILABLE

Trudie is an IDE e-board deriving its name from True IDE.

Below is a list of the board features:
  • Master and Slave IDE. Slave available with the use of a master / slave cable and setting the appropriate jumpers on the devices
  • Hardware Byte Swap allowing drives to be used with PCs / Macs
  • Option for additional HDD/FDD LED board modification
  • Built-in TOS 206 Decoder

SEC Booster - PROTOTYPING

Below is a list of the board features:
  • Speeds of up to 75MHz currently tested

As well as the 68K Buses there are a few other boards available for the H4/5 as e-boards

Phoenix Shifter - PROTOTYPING

The Phoenix Shifter is an e-board leveraging the great work @Smonson created to replace the original shifter chip. This board fits in the H4/5 and provides an HDMI socket in place of the 13 pin ST monitor port. There is also an original ST version in the pipeline. The Phoenix Shifter provides direct digital scaling to an HDMI compatible resolution.

Below is a list of the board features:

Video
  • Direct Shifter replacement in H4/5
  • Full support of Low, Med and High resolutions
  • Ability to switch between Low, Med and High resolutions seamlessly and without a cable swap using patched TOS or PhoenixOS
  • Scan line mode to provide the CRT look
Audio
  • Audio mixer providing mixing of the three YM chip outputs and L/R from S2 or X2 MIDI boards together
  • Output of mixed audio available for exit to socket of choice
  • Audio mixed into HDMI stream as part of the HDMI output
Other features
  • Internal registers for settings
  • SPI bus
  • Refresh rate LEDs

Phoenix Sparkalaphobia - PROTOTYPING

Phoenix Sparkalaphobia is a Blitter recreation using FPGA and takes its name from the fear of Glitter, which in turn is the auto-correction of Blitter.

Below is a list of the board features:
  • Fits PLCC Blitter pin-out H4/H5 boards

One thing I am thinking about since you let the design and making of a network board to whoever would want to do it, would be a specification of the address decoding so that there is a chance that everybody can play nice together.

I mean, if I understand correctly, you wish that each board use the m68k data bus and signals, and if I understand correctly, anyone working on it's own will likely ends up overlapping address ranges, making them incompatible at first.

So, it would be helpful to have a specs that would state
  • The global address range of any H5 plugin board that will ever exist (e.g. "from $E00000 to $EFFFFF included")
  • Inside this address range
    • the address range of each official plugins (e.g. 'Flashy Clock : from $E00000 to $E000FF included')
    • the reserved "slots" for the future official/blessed plugins (e.g. 'Reserved for official/blessed plugins : from $E00000 to $E7FFFF included') (by the way, a "blessed" plugin would be like the network board that you wish someone can make and then workout the details with the phoenix team so that it plays nice)
    • the slots available for "3rd party" plugins (e.g. 'Reserved for 3rd party plugins : from $E80000 to $EFFFFF included')
That's all for now

@sporniket I can publish current used registers. I do need to do a full register list. Though with nobody coming forward to help develop add ons there doesn't seem much point doing a register list currently. Though what will be used in the future, no idea. There isn't any other addons planned currently.

The list may not be complete. But think its correct. I should point out that all previous hardware addons in the past 30+ years I consider obsolete and not supported. There are to many registers used for hardware which isn't produced anymore. So we are starting again with our own register list. So any H5 addons must be Phoenix platform verified & compatible by us.

FLASHY CLOCK

ROM
FC0000..FEFFFF
000000..000007
E00000..E3FFFF

RAM
400000..7FFFFF
400000..BFFFFF
400000..DFFFFF

CONTROL REGISTERS
FF8970
FF896C
FF8964
FFFFFF

FLASH SPACE
E40000..E7FFFF

RTC
FF89F0
FF89F2

TRUDIE

ROM
FC0000..FEFFFF
000000..000007
E00000..E3FFFF

CONTROL REGISTERS
FFFFFF
F00000..F00038
F00042
F00044

SEC BOOSTER

ROM
FC0000..FEFFFF
000000..000007
E00000..E3FFFF

CONTROL REGISTERS
FFFE00
FFFE0E
FF896A

RAM
400000..7FFFFF

SND
FF8800..FF8808

I do generally work off this list.

@exxos / @sporniket the list is missing the Phoenix Shifter and Phoenix Sparkalaphobia registers. I’ll dig them out and add to the list.
