I HAVE UPDATED TO VERSION 2.30 AND REGISTRATION CODE NO LONGER WORKS?

As said in the update message prior to the update, The registration codes have changed. You can either go back to your old version or you can obtain a new code free of charge. When E-mailing us please provide your old registration codes along with the new key code generated by the program. Users who do not provide valid registration information will not be issued with a code. In which case please reinstall your previous version.

Why the change ? Major updates to the registration and the adding of the new rental codes resulted in a new registration code generation.

I CAN'T SEEM TO USE THE PROGRAM ?

Keep Connected demo version has been discontinued. It has been replaced with a rental system where you must buy a 30-day license key or the full version. Please see HERE for the options. Once you download the program you will be given 2 codes, you decide if you wish to rent or buy the full version. Then you goto our online store and purchase that key number. You will be unable to use the program until you buy a license code.

Why is the free demo no longer available ?

For the simple fact that our servers are flooded with countless downloads each day. Something had to be done to solve this and thus the rental system was born.

I CAN'T RUN THE SETUP FILE?

Some older versions of Windows such as windows 95 may not understand what the "MSI" setup file is. To fix this problem you need to download some Windows Updates. Install them and then you will be able to install the program. Dont forget to reboot after installing any software!

Microsoft main MSI update page - http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/instmsi.htm

Windows 9X - http://download.microsoft.com/download/platformsdk/wininst/1.1/W9X/EN-US/InstMsi.exe

HOW DO I USE THE "GET IT" FUNCTION ?

First you need the button ready to click before you can use the GET IT function.

You can either wait until your ISP disconnects you, or another way if to turn off your modem (if you have a external type ) then turn it back on again.

When you are disconnected you will see a box like the one below.

This is a Classic for most users and most will wish to click on the "Reconnect..." Button.

You can now click on the GET IT button on the main options bar. Keep Connected will move out of your way and flash the GET IT button indicating its watching what you are doing. Keep Connected will first ask you to click on the window where the button is. In this example the window is "Reestablish Connection" ( The blue bar). You MUST click on the blue bar or titlebar of the window. Keep Connected will look for this title so it must be correct.

Keep connected will then ask you to click the button on the window. In the example the button will be "Reconnect...". Keep Connected will now store these settings, Click on OK.

TOP

HOW DO I USE THE CONNECTIONS LIST ?

Once you have your window and button selected with the GET IT function, you can then choose to enable the event or disable it.

Below is a simple connection list.

On the far left you have a box which you can tick to enable that event. In this example "Reestablish Connection" is selected. This is the "window" to look for. Under the Button list you can see "Reconnect...". This is the Button to press. Under Class is the type of function to press. Normally Class will display "Button". Status shows the last message of the function which was just carried out.

It is also possible for you to have selected the Cancel button instead of "Reconnect...". If you do this then you must of course have the Active button on and also the Redial button on. If you cancel a reconnect box then you must have Redial on to gain back your connection. In another case you could have the program press "Reconnect..." with or without Redial on.

It maybe worth noting that Windows will reconnect you if you press the "Reconnect..." Button. In this case Keep connected will wait a few seconds before it checks to see if your online or not. Otherwise windows and Keep connected would try to both reconnect you at the same time.

On some occasions windows will report a connection fail. Normally you will just get a box popup with OK on it. Keep Connected can be also configured to press these buttons for you. If they are not pressed then you could endup with multi dialup messages in your taskbar. Keep connected can press any button if configured correctly.

It is good practice to use the Connections List to click on error boxes and use the Redial option to reconnect to your ISP.

You could however turn Redial off and just click the "Reconnect..." Button after you are disconnected. This will work for most users though it should be noted that should Windows not show the reconnect box, there would be no way for Keep Connected to connect you back to your ISP ( Unless the Redial option is on).

HOW DO I DELETE FROM THE CONNECTIONS LIST ?

Highlight the Connection in the list with the mouse and left click it. Then right click on the connection. A small menu will pop-up. Click on Delete.

TOP

HOW DO I ENABLE/DISABLE THE PROGRAM?

To Enable the program into doing anything you must click the ACTIVE button to show green. To stop Keep Connected click the ACTIVE button to show red.

If you wish to disable the "button pressing" features from the Connections list then click on the small tickbox next to the Connection event. Ticked box means the event is enabled. A blank box means its disabled.

TOP

WHAT DOES THE "ERROR GETTING FOCUS" ERROR MEAN?

This is not really a error. It is normal for the program to say this, so its nothing to worry about. It actually is sating that it can't find the window. Should the window come up on the screen such as the Reconnect box, Status will say "done". This means the button was successfully clicked on. When the box has been clicked on the focus error will of course come back as the window is no longer on screen.

TOP

I KEEP GETTING ERRORS ?

If you are getting errors under the status bar, then its probably something you have done which the program can't execute. See above if you get the "error getting focus" error. Other errors under status could mean either the window was not found or the window was found but the button wasn't. Keep Connected will report such errors.

Other errors can become parent if you try to alter any of the Keep connected files manually.

When you first install the program if you are asked to replace any .dll files then make sure you are not keeping older versions else Keep connected could fail with older files on your computer. Keep Connected has all currently updated files for your system. It should also be noted that during install you maybe asked to restart and rerun the setup program. This is normal if some of your system files are outdated.

The install program only installs runtimes which are provided from the Microsoft support site. The runtimes are also freely available from most shareware sites. They do not harm your system in anyway, just update older files and install missing files.

Should you get anyother problems such as runtime errors or anything else which is not covered here, Please E-mail Tech support with your program. Please not we can only offer support for Keep connected related issues.

THE PROGRAM SEEMS TO STOP FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN CARRY ON?

Keep Connected will wait 20 seconds everytime a button is pressed. This is necessary for a few reasons. Should you choose to press the "Reconnect..." Button and have "REDIAL" pressed, Keep connected will wait 20 seconds before it next checks your connection. If the delay was not there then windows could be reconnecting to your ISP and Keep connected will see your off-line and also try to reconnect you. The small delay ensures that 2 dialup connections are not trying to connect you at the same time.

It should be also noted that Keep connected will do all checks every 2 seconds. This means Windows has little effort in running the program and frees more processor time for your other programs. It should also be noted that it can in some cases actually take longer than 2 seconds for reconnect boxes to appear, especially on slower systems.

HOW LONG WILL KEEP CONNECT KEEP MY ISP CONNECTION?

Keep Connected will keep you online until you Disable it. Please note if you are disconnected at 2 hour limits Keep Connected can't override this and will automatically reconnect for you when you are disconnected. Keep Connected will keep reconnecting until you choose not too. It is possible to keep your PC connected for as long as you want. It CANNOT prevent your ISP from disconnecting you after 2 hours. Keep Connected will take care of any disconnection's for you and help to keep your PC online for longer.

TOP

HOW DO I DISCONNECT ?

Click on ACTIVE to show red. Keep Connected is now turned off. You may now click on your dial-up stat's in the system tray and click on Disconnect. You will have to Turn Keep Connected off by making sure ACTIVE is red else Keep Connected could try and reconnect you!

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE DIAL-UP OPTION?

If your computer uses software to connect you provided by your ISP then you might have one of the following problems. If the Dial-Up box is blank the click on it and select your dialup connection. If you don't have anything in the list then you will need to contact your ISP Technical support and ask them how you can make a Dial-Up networking connection. Normally these are simple and you only need to really type your ISP's number, username and password.

Some ISP's will have a Dial-Up connection but it won't have your username and password entered in the Dial-Up box. In which case the connection to your ISP will always fail as Keep Connected assumes the Dial-Up connection is correct. If you think you have this problem then goto My Computer, Dial-Up networking. Here you should see your ISP connection. Double click it and it will prompt you for your username and password. If they are already entered then you shouldn't have a problem. If they are not entered then you need to type in your username and password. Make sure you tick the SAVE PASSWORD box. If you are unsure about your username then its normally the last part of your E-mail address. IF you are unsure about anything contact your ISP support line.

WININET.DLL ERRORS

When you install Keep Connected you must not be running any other programs or be online. Keep Connected needs to update wininet.dll as most systems are running a older more buggy version. If you have installed IE5.5 then you will probably already have this file. If upon setup you can't overwrite the DLL then some program has locked it in use, close all running programs and reinstall Keep Connected. If you still can't update then you can either copy the file into windows system manually or update to IE5.5. We recommend updating to IE5.5 anyway.

The most up to date version is 5.50.4918.600 for the wininet.dll. If you have a older version then you may get page fault errors or Keep Connected might not function correctly. A sign of this is if it redials then seems to hang or not attempt a second time. There could be of course many reasons for errors but all the ones we know of are related to this one DLL file. If you have the update DLL but still get faults then you might be running a older version of IE. In which case you will need to update to IE5.5 to update all related files.

Keep Connected does contain some basic updates which most systems might not have at all, or are outdated. It is impossible to include all the system updates as the setup program would be huge. We feel its large enough without included more update files. If you are running IE3 or IE4 then we strongly suggest you update your system. IE5.5 is free to download and you only need install the most basic components.

HOW OFTEN IS THE PROGRAM UPDATED ?

Software is updated as and when needed or new functions are introduced. . If you have a older version then we suggest you download and install the updated version. Your settings or registration codes will not be effected. When we do release a update and you feel there is a bug please E-mail us and we will look into the problem. Our aim is to provide 100% bug-free software so please help us and report any bugs or suggestions you may have. Keep Connected will tell you from version 1.90 onwards when a update has been issued. Any bug problems are corrected the day we find them and a update will be released the next day.

I HAVE FOUND A BUG?

Even though we test each update extensively tested before release it is possible for bugs to happen, we are only human afterall. If you have wininet.dll programs then please see the FAQ link for that DLL above. Due to the amount of windows versions, builds service packs its impossible to say what errors some users might have. If you have DLL programs then your system probably needs some updates. Installing IE5.5 will update most related files to Keep Connected.

If you still feel you have found a bug then please contact Tech Support with as much information as possible. Include things like windows version build, IE version and any possible crash information along with your basic PC specs as CPU,RAM etc. Please make sure you read the FAQ list to make sure its truly a error first.

WINSOCK AND OUT OF MEMORY ERRORS

Both these errors are not normally a fault within the program but a problem how on how your PC is configured. We have spent a lot of time investigating this problem and have come up with a few solutions for you to try. There a number of reasons to why some people may get this error. The first thing to check is the Virtual Memory settings under control panel, system. Either set it to 100MB or tick the box to let windows control the amount. Letting windows control the amount is actually better.

If you are running windows 95,98,ME and you have more than 512MB RAM installed then you have a serious problem especially if you have a graphics card with a large amount of RAM such as 64MB or 128MB. Normally other programs will report out of memory errors in other applications and on some occasions icons may vanish or become corrupted. The workaround for this is to use the msconfig utility and under advanced options limit RAM to 384MB.

Our main system uses 512MB RAM, 128MB GFX card and on bootup 90MB swap file. Setting our swap file to something like 20MB will result in a system slowdown and out of memory errors. Using 512MB RAM will also cause the same problem. Though in both these cases a 8MB GFX card will appear to not cause as many problems. It is recommended to let windows control the swap file size (virtual memory ) and have a system with 256MB RAM installed.

Keep Connected uses very little memory. The strain on the GDI is only 4% despite the graphical options. IE normally uses 6% GDI in comparison. It is also important to make sure you overwrite files when installing Keep Connected for the first time. We have spent a great deal of time testing various version of each file included. These files are known working versions. Anyother versions, normally lower, will result in random problems which are too many to list.

If for some reason the program crashes please make a note what the problem was and E-mail us with as much information as you can on what you were doing at the time. I.E. was the program checking for updates when it crashed ? Did it crash 5 seconds after the main screen came up ? What did you click on before it crashed ? Did it crash while making a connection ? What version of Windows and Internet explorer are you using ? Please give as much information as possible. In most cases its probable you have some bad system files which may be missing or may need updating.

IT JUST DON'T WORK ?

It is impossible to anticipate all variants of errors and configurations on everyone computer. However there is probably a very simple solution to your problem. If you have a problem or question then please E-mail us and we will try our very best to help you.

Most common mistakes are not to Turn ACTIVE ON which makes the program not work at all. Secondmost is not selecting a dial-up name. Do you have a working dial-up connection ? Some ISP's use there own over complicated dial-up software which is a waste of time. With a few moment works you can create your own dial-up connection. REDIAL will only work if you have selected a dial-up name and of course have REDIAL turned ON!

If you use the connections list to press those RECONNECT buttons for you then make sure its enabled. Make sure ACTIVE is on else it won't work. Make sure you have a low delay value of say 1 second in case the program is waiting when you think it should do something.

Keep Connected is VERY easy to use. It may seem overcomplicated due to the large documentation which comes with it though this is only to explain each option in as much detail as possible. Keep Connected has many features and is a powerful tool if used correctly.

If you have a problem then please E-mail is we will be happy to discuss your problem. Please check that your question hasn't already been addressed in the FAQ list.

I GET MESSAGES "ERROR LOADING FILE DEFAULTS RESTORED?

When you first install Keep Connected you will get this error. It means the config files were not found so Keep Connected has created a default set. You will not see this error again until Keep connected detects the files missing or possibly corrupted.

When updating Keep Connected you may on occasions get this error. This is due to the fact that as more options are added the config files change. Keep Connected will see older versions as corrupted and restore a default set.

GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT

It has been noticed that some buttons may actually be on some dilog boxes but could may well be hidded. Keep connected will still try to press this button and the status will say "done" even though the button may not be visible. This can casue a protection fault if you have the delay values set to 0. Keep Connected will try to press both buttons at the same time which problaby wont be there. The user interface sees this as a error and causes the protection fault. It is normal for this error to come up and does not mean that the program wont run correctly. The solution is to make sure all your delay values are set to at least 1 second to prevent such situations.

I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE BUY OPTIONS

Keep Connected is available in 2 options. Firstly the FULL REGISTERED version allows you to buy a code which allows FULL UNLIMITED use of keep connected with no restrictions whatsoever.

Secondly, You can buy a 30-DAY RENTAL code for much less than the full registration price. This will give you only 1 restriction that Keep Connected will exit after a 24 hour period, otherwise Keep Connected is fully functional. 24 hours is classed as a full day and you must restart Keep connected. When you restart your day number will of course be 1 day less. Your "day count" will decrease each time you restart Keep Connected. You day count is in actual fact "30 uses" which you can use as and when you wish with no time limits. You can use these 30 days in a month or a year or over 5 years if you so wish. In anycase after the 30 uses are up you will no longer be able to use Keep Connected until you buy another 30day code. 24 hours is the longest you can run keep connected on a single day/use. Keep Connected will allow you 30 uses of upto 24hours in each use.

In both options you can obtain free updates and free tech support for the life of the product.

Please note that user on a RENTAL basis will loose a days use when the updates are installed. It is best to update before you close the program to avoid loosing a days use.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR ORDER RECEIPT AFTER PURCHASE. WE WILL NOT OFFER SUPPORT TO USER WHO DO NOT PROVIDE VALID REGISTRATION RECEIPTS.
